Luxor Immersion - 11 days

Meet our group in Cairo and spend the first day touring the Great Pyramids, then fly south to Luxor, where you’ll settle into a charming guesthouse on the Nile’s West Bank surrounded by gardens and farmland. Rather than constantly moving hotels, you’ll slow down and truly get to know one place.

With a private Egyptologist guide leading the way, explore some of the world’s most extraordinary ancient sites, including Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, Deir el Medina, and the Noble Tombs. Alongside these icons, you’ll also experience the living culture of modern Egypt through village walks, market visits, traditional cooking classes, bread baking, and conversations with local hosts.

  • Arrive in Cairo and meet Amer, your guide, at the airport. After immigration and luggage assistance, transfer to your hotel overlooking the Great Pyramids at Giza. Time to rest, settle in, and absorb the first sounds of the city.

  • Visit the Great Pyramids at Giza and explore the Saqqara necropolis. Learn about the early development of pyramid building and the landscape of ancient Memphis. Evening in Cairo.

  • Morning flight to Luxor. Transfer to your West Bank guesthouse surrounded by gardens and farmland. Settle in, explore the property, and take a relaxed walk through the surrounding village. Welcome dinner at the guesthouse. Sunset at Luxor Temple.

  • Visit Karnak Temple, exploring its vast complex of pylons, chapels, and the Great Hypostyle Hall. Walk the restored Sphinx Avenue connecting Karnak and Luxor. Return to the West Bank for downtime at the guesthouse. Evening dinner at a local restaurant.

  • Wake up early to take a sunrise hot air balloon. Visit the Valley of the Kings, exploring all the tombs you want. No rush at all. Sunset on the West Bank followed by a village walk.

  • Easy morning and transfer to the felucca. After lunch, begin a two night felucca journey. Swim in the Nile, dock along quiet riverbanks, and enjoy dinner prepared onboard.

  • Full day sailing on the felucca. Relaxed pace along the Nile with time for swimming, reading, and watching life along the river. Stop at small villages and farmland. Meals prepared onboard. Party on the shores of the Nile. Overnight on the river.

  • Visit Esna Temple and walk through Esna town. Explore local markets and visit linen workshops. Continue exploring the town before transferring back to your Luxor guesthouse. Evening at leisure.

  • Morning visits to Habu and Hatshepsut Temples. Cooking and traditional bread making class with local hosts. Learn about regional dishes and ingredients. Afternoon at the guesthouse with time to relax or explore the West Bank village.

  • Visit the Noble Tombs and Deir el Medina workers village. Explore tombs of artisans and officials and learn about daily life of those who built the royal tombs. Afternoon at leisure on the West Bank. Ride a donkey to the best vantage point to see sunset.

  • Morning flight to Cairo. Visit the incredible Grand Egyptian Museum and explore the collection. Evening in Cairo.
